Canine Wellness: Fleas
Fleas are the most common parasite in this area. They are bloodsuckers that frequently cause skin irritation and transmit tapeworms. Regular, ongoing flea control measures are necessary during the spring, summer, and fall months. Insecticide sprays, dips, and powders have been replaced by safer and more effective monthly flea preventatives, such as Frontline and Revolution.
We recommend a monthly flea preventative during the summer months if there is no ongoing flea infestation. Flea infested households will require yearlong flea treatments. Talk with the veterinarian for guidance on which flea products to use and how and when to use them.
