Canine Wellness: Heartworms

Heartworms are large worms that live inside the heart of an infected dog. Once there they cause severe damage to the heart and lungs and can cause death, Heartworms are detected by a simple blood test. Heartworm disease is spread by infected mosquitoes. We have detected. positive heartworm dogs in this area that have not traveled to other areas.

Treatment can be very difficult and expensive. However, prevention is easy and cost effective. Heartworm preventative is administered once monthly and includes intestinal de-worming. We recommend all dogs receive heartworm and intestinal worm prevention year round. These preventatives are guaranteed to protect your pet.
